Branch Liquidity

Liquidity supervision for bank branch networks

Client
A national bank
Role
Senior frontend engineer

Product work for banks and enterprises. Client and product names are not disclosed.

The challenge

A bank with a large branch network has to know how much cash each branch holds and how money moves between branches, and report it to the central bank on time. Collected by hand, the numbers arrived late, did not always agree, and finding the source of a mismatch took days.

How it fits together

Branchescash and transfersCollectevery dayReconcilematch both sidesReportregulator formatCentral bankHead officeliquidity panelsDiscrepanciesflagged the same day
Branch positions and transfers are collected every day, reconciled on both sides, reported to the central bank and shown to head office.

The approach

  1. 01

    Collect every day

Each branch’s cash position and inter branch transfers are gathered daily from the bank’s systems, so head office works from today’s figures rather than last week’s spreadsheets.

  2. 02

    Reconcile automatically

Both sides of every transfer are matched. Discrepancies are flagged with the branches and transfers involved, so they can be resolved while the day is still fresh.

  3. 03

    Report to the central bank

The processed figures are prepared and sent to the central bank directly from the system, in the format it expects.

  4. 04

    One view for head office

Panels show liquidity across the branch network and its trend, from the whole bank down to a single branch.
